Harm Reduction and Stigma

Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services' Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) grant supports jurisdictions in collecting and using data to select, improve and expand overdose prevention activities. OD2A focuses on understanding and tracking the complex and changing nature of the drug overdose crisis by seamlessly integrating data and prevention strategies. 

By partnering with Overdose Lifeline, Montgomery County is supporting the costs associated with continuing education credits for this dual harm reduction and stigma curriculum. 

This opportunity is for providers and peers that support Montgomery County, PA residents. This project has been developed with funding by the CDC.

By completing this curriculum through Overdose Lifeline, you are helping Montgomery County increase the quality of care for individuals struggling with substance use disorder.

Removing the Shame and Stigma of SUD

Delivers 3.0 Continuing Education Credits

The first course explores the impact of shame and stigma on individuals, families, caregivers, and communities affected by addiction.

The course will examine the societal roots of addiction-related stigma, the personal and collective consequences it creates, and how these dynamics serve as barriers to seeking help.

By sharing first-hand accounts and relatable scenarios, the course helps participants understand how stigma affects those living with SUD—and equips them with practical tools to respond with empathy and support.

Guide to Harm Reduction

Delivers 3.0 Continuing Education Credits

The second course provides a foundational understanding of harm reduction (HR) as it relates to substance use disorder (SUD).

Participants will explore the benefits of harm reduction, learn how these strategies help reduce the risks and consequences of drug use, and understand how they contribute to broader public health and community safety.

The course also addresses common misconceptions about harm reduction and clarifies how it fits within the continuum of SUD treatment and recovery. By the end, learners will be able to define harm reduction in practice and identify key principles and services that support its implementation.
